Manchester United take on Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux tonight as they aim to continue their winning start to the Premier League season.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hinted he will name an unchanged side after the 4-0 win against Chelsea in the opening weekend fixtures, but he may be tempted to roll the dice.
“We’ve had a good week, good training week, a competitive week so hopefully we can have the same squad and people available,” Solskjaer told the Manchester United App.
However, United were not quite dominant in midfield against an inexperienced Chelsea team last week, and Solskjaer may consider it the right time to bring in Nemanja Matic in place of Andreas Pereira, who was widely thought of as the weakest player despite his assist against Chelsea.
That isn’t the necessarily the choice we would make, but it is one we expect him to make, as Wolves are a solid and formidable outfit. United could do with Pereira’s engine but we expect Solskjaer to err on the side of experience.
The defence and goalkeeper will surely pick themselves after an impressive showing last week, and Scott McTominay and Paul Pogba are almost certain to play.
The remaining selection choice will be interesting as Solskjaer decided whether or not to utilise Mason Greenwood or give a full debut to young Daniel James after his goal last week. On this occasion we expect Solskjaer to pick Jesse Lingard, who put in an understated but hard-working effort in the first game, with James and Greenwood available from the bench to make an impact if needed.
Manchester United will be aiming to better their results at Molineux from last season; both were lost during Solskjaer’s reign, and both by the same scoreline of 2-1. A win by any scoreline will see United go top of the table at this early stage by goal difference.
*Note – Jesse Lingard obviously wears the number 14 shirt, not 11 as depicted below.
