Player ratings from United’s narrow win.
De Gea – Two fine saves, one before United scored, in a steady performance – 7
Wan-Bissaka – Adventurous and strong defensively. Some concern about the way he commits himself as you worry he may get injured – 7
Lindelof – Quietly assured – 6
Maguire – Against his old club, this was perhaps Harry’s most authoritative game yet. Very good – 7
Young – Put in a decent shift – 6
Matic – Experience and composure, but sometimes looked off the pace – 6
McTominay – His battle with Maddison dictated the pace of the game. The United midfielder won out in one of his more impressive showings. Man of the match – 8
Pereira – Did well to force a commitment for the penalty and honestly looks better further up than in a deeper role, but there remains a big question mark over his quality – 5
Mata – Not the best game but then again not the worst, Mata does not seem to possess the highs or lows of some of his erratic teammates, and today his experience was necessary – 6
James – Still productive and still penetrative even on a quieter day – 6
Rashford – Showed decent bravery to step up and take the penalty. Struggled due to poor service but wasn’t fantastic on the ball when he got it. – 6
Fred – Seemed a bit of a gamble. Made a bit of a gamble out of an unnecessary overhead kick clearance late on. – 5
Chong – Brought on for Mata, it seemed another gamble from Solskjaer. It didn’t backfire, so although Chong was a little quiet, he did see some of the ball and he will hopefully benefit from the experience.
Tuanzebe – not enough time to rate
